The Graham Equestrian Center (GEC) is owned and operated by the Gunpowder Falls State Park (GFSP). In order to assist GFSP management in the renovation, development, and daily operation of the GEC, a nonprofit educational organization was formed – the Graham Equestrian Center, Inc. The GEC is a facility that has great potential for adding an equestrian component to the park’s objective of nature tourism, and to that end, GEC, Inc. will promote and offer educational opportunities to the citizens of Maryland. As a full-time boarding facility, the GEC provides the ultimate environment in which to advance various programs involving horses. We intend to develop a calendar of events designed for children and adults alike to teach them various aspects of horsemanship and horse management. The impact of the horse industry on the state’s economy is considerable and we propose to contribute by introducing and perhaps exciting the interest of future enthusiasts to participate in the horse experience. At the center of our educational program lies the desire to bring about and nurture a new respect for and knowledge of one of the planet’s most amazing creatures. And having a deeper understanding of one of these creatures may open possibilities that may impact an even wider sphere.

From it’s inception The Graham Equestrian Center, Inc. has been dedicated to the mission of educating people about horses. Due to the enormous efforts of Holly La Barre our facility manager and many volunteers we are making great progress. I also want to especially thank our boarders for their many volunteer efforts. Our regular horsemanship classes have been a great success. Those who have participated in the class now enjoy a better relationship with their horse. Their horses are more relaxed and responsive because they have made the commitment to learning to interact with their horses from the horse’s perspective. As you will see from our schedule of events we have a good line-up of programs. Interest in the educational programs grows everyday. Our capital campaign is off to a great start. Due to the generous contribution of a beautiful Andalusian mare by Dr. Paula Sorrell Johnson, we are on our way the raising the funds necessary to build our indoor facility which will house the indoor arena as well as a classroom, library and meeting rooms. This will be a versatile facility open to all interested horse people to use. If you are interested in learning more about our equine educational programs, or if there is a program that you would like to use this facility for please contact us. Any and all equestrian endeavors are welcome! |
